Cosmetic Tattooing FAQ’s
How long does Cosmetic Tattooing last?
If you’re familiar with decorative body art tattoos, that type of ink is deposited into subcutaneous (fat) tissue of the skin making it permanent but fading over time into blue/green tones that are challenging to cover.
Cosmetic tattoos, on the other hand, is pigment (semi-permanent ink) implanted into the dermis – the second layer of the skin. Semi permanent ink placed at this depth creates space for color to fade more naturally and be touched up more easily and allows for changes in shape and color.
We’ll touch up your Cosmetic Tattoo immediately after healing, and recommend yearly “refreshes” to touch up your color. However, if you leave your refresh longer than 1 year, you will be required to pay a higher fee.
What’s the difference between Cosmetic Tattoo and Microblading?
Microblading is the semi-permanent application of pigment to the eyebrows using a blade to scrape across the skin in hair–like strokes. Cosmetic Tattooing is the application of semi-permanent pigment to the dermal layer of the skin using a tattoo machine. This causes less trauma to the skin and provides a more refined hair stroke. Cosmetic Tattooing is also ideal of any skin type, whereas Microblading is not recommended for oily skin types because the ink molecules travel due to the larger surface area of the blade compared to a tattoo needle.
Can I get an EyeLiner Cosmetic Tattoo with my lash extensions on?
No, you’ll need to remove your lash extensions one week before your tattoo appointment to avoid the risk of infection. Please wait 2 weeks after your tattoo to apply your lash extensions.
Do I have to pay a touch up fee if I’ve had my Cosmetic Tattooing done somewhere else?
Because we can’t guarantee other people’s work, if you’re needing a touch up we suggest youbook a consultationto determine a fee to touch up another artists work and guide you to next steps for working with us.
How long will it take for my brows to heal?
If you’re getting married, we recommend booking your appointment 3 months in advance to heal after touch ups
Does it hurt?
We apply a topical numbing cream prior to your treatment to minimize any discomfort. Most people say they feel minor pressure.
I have a tendency to get cold sores. Is there something I can do to prevent a flare prior to my Cosmetic Tattoo appointment?
Because we can’t perform your treatment if you have a cold sore, we recommend taking an antiviral medication a week prior to your treatment. We have the ability to prescribe one for you so please contact us if you need it to ensure a cold sore doesn’t make its dreaded appearance.
How do I maintain my Cosmetic Tattoo?
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! Did we mention “sunscreen”?! We can’t stress enough the importance of using a full spectrum SPF to protect your Cosmetic Tattoo investment.
